Why are we addicted to food?

Many people wonder or joke about being addicted to food. But the truth is, food addiction is real and it’s becoming more and more of an issue. The food industry is duping all of us. There are billions of dollars that go into hiring rocket scientists and engineers that create hyper palatable food with high concentrations of starch and sugar and fat and excitotoxins and salt. And it’s all aimed at hitting the “bliss point”.

Is it really all about willpower?

Absolutely not!

Not only are we being duped by the food industry by the addictive chemicals they are putting in our foods but we are also fighting a psychological battle within. It’s pretty normal for most people to have an emotional relationship with food.

When we’re sad, stressed, happy; what do we do?  WE EAT.

But when we step back and take a look at how our eating has evolved over time, it’s beginning to control our lives in a very negative way.

Food addiction can be a really scary thing to face and deal with. If we can learn to recognize our reptilian brain (give it a name if you need to), and practice the skills necessary in order to shift our bodies out of sympathetic mode into parasympathetic mode, we can begin to conquer our food addiction.
